my internet is busted!
the internet at my apartment stopped working a few days ago so i won't be able to post any updates until i figure something out. right now, i'm abusing my resources at work.
looks like i'll be praying to the internet gods in the meantime.
flats-wearers anonymous
hello, my name is santhana, i am 23 years old, and i cannot wear heels.
i've tried. i really have.
i like the looks of some of them, and have even purchased a few, but then i return them because i feel funny.
i can't even do a chunky-heeled boot.
maybe it's that noise--the 'click clack' that bothers me. should i put a layer of rubber on the heels?
or perhaps i view them as "adult" and getting old freaks me out.
i'm hopeless.
i don't know what my problem is.
completely unrelated, my internet has been spotty lately and i lost out (by only a few dollars) on these lovely shoes:

blame it on the rain
yeah, so i'm going to blame my lack of updates on the depressing rain that's messing with new england right now. yep, i just checked the weather forecast and it says there's more rain for next week. yay!
i looked around on the internet to see if anyone else was in the same predicament. strangely enough, it seems like no one else has updated their web sites/blog either. i'm not the only one!
i know this is old news but i ran into this marc jacobs quote the other day (from butt magazine):
"I really find men who are fashionably dressed terribly unsexy...It’s a terribly sexist thing to say, but I just don’t find fashionably dressed men attractive, and men who take too much time in the bathroom and spend too much time on their body, I find a bit poncy and silly. It just doesn’t turn me on. "
i wholeheartedly agree, mr. marc. i think boys look best natural, when they don't care about their looks/clothes, but yet, they instinctively know what looks good on them. i do like the way dior homme looks on the runway but in real life it looks way too contrived. in fact, the most stylish boy i've ever seen wore a mish mosh of modern and thrift clothes he seemed to pick up off the ground: 70s tube socks, cargo shorts, slick pumas, a striped button down and a jaunty newsboy hat. yeah, sounds crazy but i guess it's one of those things you have to see yourself. the best part was, he most likely had no clue that he was stylish at all. so charming.
sometimes i see these straight guys on the train who are trying to look "sexy" or fashionable with their chest hairs poking out of their too-low v-neck american apparel t-shirts, or apple-bottomed boys squeezing into girl jeans. i get grossed out. really, all it takes, at least for me, is a slouchy hoodie or a hanes t-shirt, and some levi's...
a.p.c. madras collection
so last night i decided to browse the a.p.c. site and was pleasantly surprised that their madras collection (in collaboration with jessica ogden) had arrived. very cute, and i must say, the prices are pretty reasonable.
some highlights:
flutter dress $94

wrapped dress $116

rope bag $60

i really want the rope bag but will refrain. also, i'm unsure of a.p.c. sizing. just seems like the generic small, medium and large. what about x-small or x-large? i assume that the clothes run large. le sigh. no dresses for me.
it's 78 degrees today!
i've got the day off...
it's finally starting to feel like may.
i ordered this top the other day:

i love clothes that are very simple with a twist. the striped yoke totally did it in for me. plus, it seems great for summer because it's lightweight.
i found it at paper-doll and it's by valerie dumaine. she has more cool stuff on the site or you can check out her web site here. the top was pretty expensive but i love supporting smaller designers.
also on the paper-doll site, i discovered redder betty; she's local, from right around the boston area! her casual, playful knits remind me a little bit of charlotte ronson's clothes.
french terry octopus hoodie:

i'm loving this octopus print bikini. and it's a bandeau top as well! perfect for small-chested girls like myself. hmm, too bad the color white doesn't look too good on me...

trend prediction
these scissors bags that professional stylists use have started showing up on japanese girls. you know when a trends appears in tokyo, it will make it over to the states four years later. supersoft little bags can be worn around the hips or across the shoulder.

check them out at freshwares.
punky sandals=cute

i like these fornarina flat sandals because i'm sort of a sucker for studs in unexpected places. hehe, urban outfitter's copy made my giggle: "Made in Italy by Fornarina, so you know they're awesome." sounds like something i would write.
anyway, i need some sandals for the summer, ones that i'll like next year and years after that. not flip flops, not gladiators, not jelly shoes. too bad those are all i've been seeing lately.
new h&m polkadotted dress. $25. excuse the lowlight and saggy bra.

i'm afraid of rodents
am i the only one who does NOT like these Marc Jacobs mouse flats:

i get that they're supposed to be "ironic' and all but who would actually buy them? they're just creepy as hell!
